A long-mooted Ozzy Osbourne biopic has taken a major step forward, with Jack Osbourne revealing that a “phenomenal” actor has been chosen to portray his late father, the Prince of Darkness. The casting news signals fresh momentum for the project, which has been in development for years and is now entering a new phase of production.

The film — an official dramatization of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s life together — is being developed with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment, with Jack and Sharon attached as producers through their Osbourne Media label. While the actor’s name has not yet been disclosed, Jack described the choice as a “phenomenal, phenomenal actor” and confirmed that a director is attached and the script is being reworked.

Talk of a feature film about Ozzy Osbourne’s life has circulated for years. Originally announced in 2021, the biopic is expected to focus on Ozzy’s rise from Black Sabbath frontman to solo superstar, charting both his musical breakthroughs and his complex personal life — particularly his decades-long partnership with Sharon.

Development has been steady but slow: Jack Osbourne says the project has been in the works with major studios for roughly six years, and the team is now “full steam” into advanced stages of preparation, including a script rewrite with a director attached.

Although details are still under wraps, earlier discussions about the biopic’s narrative suggest it will span multiple decades of Ozzy’s life, with particular emphasis on his solo breakout following his departure from Black Sabbath around 1979 and the ensuing years of fame, controversy and personal challenges.

Jack has previously hinted the story could focus on roughly a 20-year period, from the release of Blizzard of Ozz through Ozzy’s mainstream success, while also capturing the dynamics of his marriage and business partnership with Sharon.

Before his death in 2025 at age 76, Ozzy himself was aware of the biopic plans and expressed a casual interest, famously saying he didn’t much care about the details — “Just tell me when it’s out so I can go see it,” according to Jack.

That relaxed stance belied a deeper confidence in the project, and now that casting is reportedly locked in, fans of the late metal icon are watching closely for further announcements on filming schedules and a release timeline.
