Turnstile Wins 2026 Grammy for Best Metal Performance With “Birds”

Baltimore’s genre-blurring rock band Turnstile has taken home a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, earning the honor for their song “Birds.” The award was announced during the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

“Birds,” taken from Turnstile’s critically hailed 2025 album Never Enough, secured the victory over a competitive field that included nominees such as Dream Theater (“Night Terror”), Ghost (“Lachryma”), Sleep Token (“Emergence”) and Spiritbox (“Soft Spine”).

The Grammy win adds to a remarkable year for Turnstile, who also became the first artist or band ever nominated across the Rock, Alternative and Metal categories in a single Grammy year — with multiple nods including Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Performance.

“Birds” appears on Never Enough, an album that has drawn praise for its expansive sound and boundary-pushing approach, blending hardcore, melodic punk and elements of heavier music in ways that appeal to both rock and metal audiences. The Recording Academy’s recognition underscores the band’s ability to transcend traditional genre lines while capturing the energy and intensity favored by voters.

Turnstile’s lineup — featuring Brendan Yates (vocals, synth/keys), Franz Lyons (bass), Pat McCrory (guitar), Daniel Fang (drums) and Meg Mills (guitar) — has seen the band evolve from underground favorites to Grammy winners within a decade, marking a major milestone in their career.

In addition to their Grammy win for Best Metal Performance, Turnstile’s Never Enough also won Best Rock Album, making the night one of the band’s most successful ever in awards competition.

The Grammy Awards celebrate recordings released over the eligibility period from August 31, 2024 to August 30, 2025, with winners determined by voting members of the Recording Academy — including peers such as artists, songwriters, producers and engineers.

Turnstile’s triumph in the metal category reflects both the band’s rising influence and the increasingly fluid boundaries between rock and metal in contemporary music.
