JOURNEY’s JONATHAN CAIN Drops Faith-Driven Solo Single, ‘Only A Prayer Away’

Jonathan Cain — the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame songwriter and longtime keyboardist for Journey — has unveiled a new solo single titled “Only a Prayer Away,” adding a deeply personal and spiritual track to his solo catalog.

The song, released on February 6, 2026, is available now through Identity Records/The Fuel Music and serves as the first taste of a forthcoming six-song EP set for release on February 27, 2026.

Cain describes Only a Prayer Away as a song for anyone who’s feeling overwhelmed, weary, or in need of encouragement. He says the inspiration struck late at night while watching a short film featuring pastor, author and Harvest Crusades founder Greg Laurie speaking on a beach about the nearness of God in difficult moments. That image — and Laurie’s phrase that “God is only a prayer away” — stayed with him and became the heart of the song.

“This song is for anyone who’s been tired, overwhelmed, or searching for hope,” Cain said, noting that the message is meant to comfort those carrying unseen pain and seeking healing of the heart, mind, and home. He added that “Jesus is closer than you think — He’s not ignoring you.”

Laurie himself praised the track, calling it a “beautiful reminder” that no matter what someone is facing, faith and prayer can offer solace and strength.

Only a Prayer Away was produced by Cain, recorded at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville, mixed by David Kalmusky, and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Adam Ayan. It precedes the EP that promises six songs blending rock, spirituality and personal reflection.

Cain shared early versions of the song with Laurie and even had it premiered on Laurie’s national radio broadcast during the National Day of Prayer in Washington, D.C., where Cain says he heard powerful testimonies from listeners touched by the message.

The release comes as Journey prepares to embark on their Final Frontier Tour, a North American farewell trek scheduled to kick off later this month, with dates running from February 28 to July 2, 2026. Cain’s solo work and faith-driven projects have increasingly run alongside his contributions to the band, reflecting both personal growth and artistic breadth.

Along with his wife Paula White-Cain’s Unleashed Conference appearances earlier in February — livestreamed to audiences worldwide — Only a Prayer Away marks a moment where Cain’s faith, family and music intersect publicly in a very personal way.
