David Lee Roth made a surprise appearance at the 2026 edition of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, joining soul-pop singer Teddy Swims onstage for a performance of the classic Jump — one of the most recognizable hits by Van Halen.
Swims’ set on the festival’s main stage began around 5:30 p.m. local time and quickly turned into a star-studded performance built around surprise guest appearances. The singer used a playful doorbell sound effect throughout the show, signaling when a new guest would walk onto the stage.
The first surprise arrived when Joe Jonas stepped out to perform the Jonas Brothers ballad “When You Look Me in the Eyes.” Later, Vanessa Carlton joined Swims to perform her 2001 hit “A Thousand Miles.”
But the biggest moment of the set came during its closing stretch. When the doorbell rang again, Roth emerged wearing a leather vest and tight stage pants, flashing his signature grin as the crowd erupted. Swims greeted him enthusiastically, introducing the veteran rocker as a member of “the best band of all time.”
The unmistakable synth intro of “Jump” soon blasted across the desert festival grounds, and Roth launched into the iconic 1984 anthem with the swagger that defined his years fronting Van Halen. The performance was energetic and playful, with Roth spinning across the stage, twirling his microphone stand like a baton during the guitar-solo section and even strutting down the long Coachella catwalk toward the crowd.
Swims clearly enjoyed the moment as much as the audience, smiling broadly while sharing vocals with Roth. At one point the pair even briefly missed a cue entering the next verse, laughing it off before continuing the song — a spontaneous moment that only added to the crowd’s excitement.
The appearance also marked a notable return to the festival stage for Roth, who had previously suggested he was stepping away from touring before returning to live performances in 2025. He is currently scheduled to launch another solo tour beginning April 16 in Airway Heights, Washington.
For fans in attendance, the collaboration was one of the standout surprises of the festival’s opening weekend — a moment where a modern pop-soul star and a legendary rock frontman collided to deliver one of the most recognizable arena-rock songs of the 1980s to a new generation of listeners.
Even if it lasted only a single song, Roth’s appearance proved that the spirit of Van Halen’s biggest hit still resonates decades after its release, sending the Coachella crowd into a loud sing-along as the track reached its triumphant finale.
