Staind has finished work on its ninth studio album, which is tentatively expected to arrive in early 2027. The record will follow Confessions Of The Fallen, the band’s first album in 12 years, which was released in September 2023 through Alchemy Recordings/BMG.
The update came from guitarist Mike Mushok during an interview at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio, where he spoke with Aaron “Goose” Seller and Thick Rick of 99.7 The Blitz. Mushok said the new album is already complete and added that he does not expect it to be released this year.
Confessions Of The Fallen was Staind’s first full-length album since 2011 and was produced by Erik Ron, who has also worked with Godsmack, Panic! At The Disco, and Black Veil Brides. Mushok previously said he believed the band’s future material would continue moving in a similar direction, including the electronic elements heard on the latest release. He also noted that the band’s new material was already leaning “kind of” in that same vein.
Speaking in December 2023, Mushok explained that the electronic textures on Confessions Of The Fallen came from Aaron Lewis wanting to explore something the band had discussed for years but had never fully attempted. Mushok said he initially did not know how to create those sounds himself, which is why Erik Ron played a major role in shaping the album’s sonic character. He added that some of the more electronic-sounding sections began as guitar parts that were later translated into synthesizer sounds.
Asked about future experimentation, Mushok said his main focus is simply writing strong songs. He said the band does not follow a fixed formula and prefers to use whatever serves the song best, whether that means electronics, a guitar solo, or something else entirely. He also described the recording process for Confessions Of The Fallen as lengthy but ultimately satisfying, saying he was very happy with how it turned out.
When Confessions Of The Fallen was first announced in April 2023, Lewis said the goal was to modernize Staind’s sound while keeping the band recognizable. The group’s catalog now includes eight studio albums dating back to 1995, with major commercial successes such as Break The Cycle, 14 Shades Of Grey, and Chapter V, all of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart. Staind is also known for hits including “It’s Been Awhile,” “Fade,” “For You,” “So Far Away,” “Right Here,” and “Price To Pay.”
The band returned in 2019 after a five-year break and later released Live: It’s Been Awhile in 2021, along with the two-part streaming series The Return Of Staind. Earlier this year, Staind also announced the Break The Cycle 25th Anniversary Tour, a 25-date run featuring Seether as direct support, with Hoobastank and Hinder serving as special guests. The tour is set to begin in September, travel through major venues in the U.S. and Canada, and end in Dallas.
