Keith Urban Reveals Why He Scrapped One Yacht Rock Duet Off ‘Flow State’ Album at the Last Minute

Keith Urban is just days away from releasing his highly anticipated yacht rock project Flow State, but the album almost had one more track.

The 13th studio album, set for release on June 12, 2026, features 10 yacht rock covers plus one new original song. However, Urban revealed in an exclusive interview that the project originally included an 11th cover — a duet that ultimately had to be scrapped at the last minute.

“There’s only one song that we cut that isn’t on the record because it’s a duet,” Urban shared, “and I didn’t find the right duet partner in time for the record to come out. So that’s sitting around waiting.”

The country superstar chose not to reveal which song it was. The decision to remove the duet came as the album came together organically. Urban initially recorded the covers just for fun to break in his new Nashville studio, with no initial plans for a full album. Halfway through the sessions, he had to pause for his High and Alive world tour, which added to the tight timeline.

Despite the last-minute change, Urban says the recording process was pure joy:

“I didn’t think there was anything serious about the record. We had a blast in the studio. I’ve never seen session players beaming so much playing songs like my session players were on the floor in the studio. It was incredible.”

This story perfectly captures Keith Urban’s creative process — spontaneous, fun, and led purely by passion rather than rigid planning. While fans might be curious about the missing duet, it shows Urban’s commitment to quality and the right chemistry. Flow State still promises to be one of his most unique and relaxed projects yet, giving listeners a smooth, feel-good escape into yacht rock territory.
