TRIVIUM’S MATT HEAFY Claims Their Next Record Is “Arguably Our Greatest Album Of All Time”

Trivium frontman Matt Heafy has made a massive statement about the band’s forthcoming 11th studio album, calling it potentially the strongest record in their 20+ year career.

Speaking backstage at Download Festival at Donington Park on June 13, 2026, Heafy gave fans an exciting update while the band performed on the main stage. The new album marks the first full-length featuring new drummer Alex Rüdinger (ex-Whitechapel), who joined the band in October 2025 replacing Alex Bent.

“We have Rudi now on drums, who we tried to get 10 years ago, and we couldn’t get him 10 years ago,” Heafy said. “And for those 10 years, he told us that he wondered and regretted every day not being in the band. And we wondered what that was supposed to be, and now we finally have him. We’re sitting on arguably our greatest album of all time. It’s not out yet. We’re still mixing it. So I think this is a new chapter.”

Heafy also reflected on the creative momentum that led to the new material. The band had originally planned to turn what became the “Struck Dead” EP (released October 2025) into a full album, but decided to pivot and start fresh once Rüdinger joined.

“I remember the first day that we jammed with Rudi, we flew him in to Florida and said, ‘Okay, welcome. This is day one. You’re gonna write new music with us.’ And so from day one… it really blossomed from there.”

Heafy promised that fans attending Download Festival would immediately notice the difference in the band’s current form:

“When everyone sees us live today, they’ll see what’s happened… It’s a completely different Trivium now. Better than ever in every single facet of the way, and this new music is incredible. This new music, I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

The upcoming album will be Trivium’s first since What the Dead Men Say (2020) and follows the “Struck Dead” EP, which was recorded at the band’s own Hangar Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Matt Heafy is not one to shy away from bold statements, and this is one of his strongest yet. Trivium have always been a band that evolves — from their metalcore roots on Ascendancy to more progressive and thrash-influenced sounds in recent years. Bringing in Alex Rüdinger, a highly technical and powerful drummer the band wanted for a decade, clearly injected fresh energy. If the new album lives up to Heafy’s hype, it could become a career-defining release for one of modern metal’s most consistent bands.
