Max Cavalera is considering giving fans a special treat by performing Sepultura’s influential 1993 album Chaos A.D. in its entirety during future live shows.
In a recent interview, the vocalist and guitarist — who left Sepultura in 1996 and now fronts Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy — spoke passionately about the idea of revisiting the groundbreaking record that helped bridge thrash metal with groove, tribal rhythms, and groove metal.
“There’s a whole new generation of fans who never got a chance to see the classic lineup playing it,” Cavalera said. “So that’s something that I think would be really cool to do.”
Chaos A.D. marked a major evolution for Sepultura, moving away from pure thrash toward a heavier, more groove-oriented sound while incorporating Brazilian percussion and world music influences. The album spawned classics such as “Refuse/Resist,” “Territory,” “Slave New World,” and “Chaos A.D.” and is widely regarded as one of the band’s most important releases.
Cavalera emphasized his strong connection to the material and how meaningful it would be to deliver it live for both longtime fans and newer listeners who discovered the band through later lineups.
He noted that while no firm plans or dates have been locked in yet, the concept is actively being discussed as a potential special event or tour theme.
This comes as Max Cavalera continues to celebrate Sepultura’s classic era through his Cavalera Conspiracy project, which features his brother Igor Cavalera and focuses on reinterpreting the band’s early material. The idea of a full Chaos A.D. performance would be a significant addition to his ongoing tributes to his Sepultura legacy.
Max Cavalera’s comments show both nostalgia and a clear understanding of his legacy. Chaos A.D. remains a pivotal album that influenced countless bands in the groove metal and nu-metal scenes. For a new generation of metal fans who only know Sepultura post-Max, seeing him perform these songs with the original fire would be a rare and powerful experience. It also highlights Cavalera’s willingness to honor the past while continuing to move forward with Soulfly and other projects.
