Grönwall’s journey to this solo era has been anything but ordinary. After fronting H.E.A.T for a decade and then stepping into Skid Row in 2022 — a band he grew up idolizing — he made the difficult decision to leave the iconic American group in March 2024 to prioritize his health following a battle with leukemia. In a recent interview, he reflected on the emotional choice: “Health always comes first… I promised myself that I would always put my health first.”
Speaking about his time with Skid Row, Grönwall shared the surreal experience of joining one of his childhood favorite bands: “That’s one of the bands I grew up listening to, so it was surreal.” He also noted the challenges of balancing recovery with the demands of extensive touring, ultimately finding a supportive environment with Michael Schenker that allowed him flexibility while he continued to heal.
His new solo album Bad Bones represents a full-circle moment of artistic independence, reuniting with longtime collaborator Jona Tee (H.E.A.T) and producer Fredrik Thomander. The record captures Grönwall’s personal growth and love for classic rock, evident in the festival set’s blend of originals and covers that nod to Sabbath, Deep Purple, and his own Skid Row legacy. Notably, he first auditioned for Swedish Idol in 2009 by singing “18 and Life.”
At the Finnish festival, Grönwall proved that his voice and passion remain as strong as ever. The performance comes as he builds momentum behind Bad Bones and continues select touring, including appearances with Michael Schenker. Fans continue to celebrate his resilience, from overcoming serious illness to carving out a solo career on his own terms.
