Alex Lifeson On Touring With Geddy Lee Again, ‘I’m Not Interested’

After 40 years on the road with Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson has had enough of his touring.

The question of whether or not Rush guitarist Eddie Trunk would think about hitting the road again was posed in the most recent episode of SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.” Though he enjoyed the shows with Lee, Lifeson stated that he has no interest in touring in any capacity and that he has no new plans to go on the road with his bandmate, “I’m not interested in touring anymore, after [40] years of touring.” When we did it, I had fun. There were numerous highs and lows. You’re just waiting for those three hours during the other twenty-one hours of the day, even though the gig and show are fantastic.

Even though he enjoys traveling extensively, there is one thing about it that he detests to this day. “And it can be exhausting, particularly if you have a family and loved ones at home from whom you are separated for extended periods. That part of it is not missed by me. Do I enjoy performing in front of an audience? Yes. That’s still something I enjoy, though perhaps not to the point where I have to.”

Lifeson’s Answer To The Rumors

Rush had not performed live since 2015. However, they remained active until the death of their drummer, Neil Peart, in 2020.

The bandmates did not reunite for another performance following their most recent appearance on the Taylor Hawkins tribute show. There have been rumors that Rush will return to perform a few more shows together despite this.

The guitarist acknowledged being aware of the rumors and disclosed if he and Lee would reconcile.

And while I understand that gossip spreads and that people have desires, I also realize that many people would like to see us return to the field. I’m not sure, though. I don’t know. Who knows? Perhaps when we’re together, we get excited and start playing around. Certainly, after we did those gigs, it was quite heady and very exciting. But I love my life right now, and I don’t know if I’m gonna disrupt it by being away from the things that I’m enjoying, for any reason.”

Lifeson Thinks Geddy Lee Would Love A Show

Though there seem to be no plans, Lifeson is sure that Geddy Lee would love to work with him when he is ready. The guitarist commented on Lee’s new life and clarified that he was busy being a book author and that he was enjoying it. Still, the two friends are okay to work together whenever they are ready:

“I’ve continued being that musician, and [Geddy’s] gone off to do other things. So, whenever he’s ready, like usual, I only live five minutes away from him, like we have all our lives. I go over and hang out and we’ll turn the recorder on and do some stuff, but there’s no plan for a tour. There’s no plan for anything.”

So, it does not seem like we will be witnessing any new shows soon, but it’s clear that Lee and Lifeson are still open to working on it.
