Alex Van Halen has revealed a sneak peek of an unreleased track he created with his late brother, Eddie Van Halen, titled “Unfinished.” This track is set to drop next month, alongside Alex’s upcoming memoir, Brothers.
You can catch a glimpse of the “Unfinished” teaser on Instagram below.
For Van Halen fans, the brothers’ signature style will be instantly recognizable. The snippet includes Eddie’s signature harmonic tones, smooth bends, and a gentle vibrato layered over a softly strummed acoustic guitar. Meanwhile, Alex keeps things grounded with his iconic snare drum sound and steady beat.
When Will Fans Hear Eddie and Alex Van Halen’s Final Track?
“Unfinished” will be released on October 22, alongside Brothers. It will be part of the audiobook version, which Alex personally narrated. According to publisher HarperCollins, this track marks “the last piece of music they worked on together” before Eddie’s passing at the age of 65 in 2020.
Although fans are eager for more, Alex Van Halen doesn’t plan to release any additional music. Earlier this year, he announced he was auctioning off his musical gear, a move that left former bandmate Sammy Hagar surprised. Hagar, who is currently touring with Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Jason Bonham in the Best of All Worlds tour, commented on the situation.
“Mike and I tried to reach out to Alex several times before we started this tour,” Hagar shared with UCR. “We tried every way possible—calls, texts, emails, even left a voicemail. Nothing. No response at all. I kept thinking he’d show up at one of the shows, especially in L.A., but then he sold all his equipment. That was his way of saying, ‘No, I’m not coming.’
