Anthrax have officially delayed the release of their long-awaited new studio album, pushing it back from its previously expected spring window to September 2026.
The update was confirmed by drummer Charlie Benante, who explained that the band needed additional time to finalize key elements of the record and properly schedule its release.
According to Benante, while the album will no longer arrive in May as previously anticipated, fans will not have to wait long for new material. The band is now planning to release the first single along with a music video in May, offering an early preview of the upcoming record.
The album has been in development for several years and serves as the follow-up to 2016’s For All Kings. Recording and mixing sessions took place partly at Studio 606 in California, with producer Jay Ruston returning to work with the band after previously collaborating on earlier releases.
Benante emphasized that the delay was not due to setbacks, but rather a decision to refine the material and ensure the release rollout is handled correctly. He also noted that the band wants listeners to fully engage with the album, highlighting that the songs are consistently strong throughout the record.
The updated timeline reflects a broader shift in how albums are released in the modern music industry, where bands often prioritize strategic promotion and staggered releases of singles ahead of a full album launch.
With the first single expected in May and the full album now scheduled for September, Anthrax’s next release remains one of the most anticipated projects in the metal scene this year.
