A Living Legend’s Monumental Legacy

Born George Guy on July 30, 1936, in Lettsworth, Louisiana, Buddy Guy built his first guitar from a string and a tree branch as a child. He moved to Chicago in 1957, quickly immersing himself in the vibrant West Side blues scene. Recording for Chess Records and collaborating with legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and Sonny Boy Williamson, Guy’s fiery guitar playing, emotional vocals, and showmanship helped define electric blues and influence generations of rock stars.

A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, nine-time Grammy winner (including a Lifetime Achievement Award), and recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Presidential National Medal of the Arts, Guy ranks #23 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. His recent albums, including 2025’s Ain’t Done With the Blues featuring guests like Joe Bonamassa, Peter Frampton, and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, continue to showcase his vital energy.

Even while scaling back extensive touring with his “Damn Right Farewell Tour,” Guy has remained active in recording and select performances. This birthday concert stands as a grand testament to his enduring impact on blues, rock, and American music.
