Dave Grohl Wrote A Song For Josh Homme To ‘Embarrass Him’

Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters wrote a song to embarrass his friend Josh Homme onstage.

Grohl attended the ‘Josh Homme & Friends‘ event and performed a song on stage for his friends. Beck, St. Vincent, and The Kills performed at the event, which raised funds for the Sweet Stuff Foundation.

The singer of Queens of the Stone Age invited Grohl to perform a song at the event. It turns out that the Foo Fighters’ frontman chose a song that would uniquely embarrass Homme. He explained how he chose the song.

When Josh asked me to come out and play tonight, I said, ‘Of course.’ And then I spent a couple of days trying to figure out like, ‘What the fck am I gonna play?’ My first idea that I had… I was like, ‘You know what? This shit’s funny – I’m gonna come out and I’m gonna do a fcking Doja Cat song’. And I spent fcking days trying to learn that fcking ‘B*tch, I said what I said‘ [song, ‘Paint The Town Red’]. There are so many lyrics to that song – maybe more than ‘The Sound Of Silence,’ which is a lot! I woke up at like two o’clock in the morning – I was like, ‘I’m not gonna roll out ‘Everlong’ for the thousandth time.’

Instead of singing a popular song on stage, he did something he considered ‘uncool.’ Grohl continued, “So I did something that could be considered extremely uncool. But I wrote a genuine and earnest song about my friend Josh. We’re all here for the same reason, but I’m not sure we’d be here if it wasn’t for that guy. When that guy calls and says, ‘Hey, I’m doing something,’ he kicks your ass if you don’t do it. So I thought, ‘I’m gonna write a song about him and embarrass him in front of all of his friends’ by actually singing about how much I fucking love you, man. And I’ve never even sung it out loud.”

Homme’s Thoughts About Reuniting Them Crooked Vultures

Dave Grohl, Homme, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones formed Them Crooked Vultures in 2009, but went on hiatus the following year. In 2022, the trio reunited for a show honoring the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Homme recently expressed his enthusiasm for reuniting his supergroup. He stated, “I would love to reunite the Crooked Vultures. However, it is not my responsibility to make that happen; it is Dave’s. My responsibility is to perform, write lyrics, and compose music. I want it to happen; Dave is aware of this. I’m excited for Them Crooked Vultures to reunite and have another go at it.

The trio’s only self-titled album was released in 2009, and they haven’t released any new music since then.
