Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton has declared herself an ‘official rockstar’ following the enormous success of her rock album, as published on her official website.

After being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, Dolly Parton originally hesitated to accept the nomination, believing she had not earned her position among rock icons. However, after reflecting on and appreciating the Hall of Fame’s inclusive nature, she accepted her admission and determined to prove herself in the rock genre.

A Promise Turned Triumph

True to her word, the singer delivered ‘Rockstar,’ a rock album with an incredible roster of music giants, signaling a big departure from her country background. Four months after its debut, ‘Rockstar’ gained RIAA Gold Certification in the United States, with sales exceeding 500,000. Parton acknowledged her appreciation and excitement at this achievement, saying:

“When I set out to create my rock album, I hoped that it would be well-received by both my fans and others who may not listen to my music. I’m overjoyed to receive this Gold record! Thank you to everyone who took part in this initiative. I suppose I can now officially declare I am a rockstar!

Before the album’s release, the musician discussed her motives and goals for breaking into rock music on CBS Mornings. Reflecting on her career and her husband’s impact, she emphasized the timing and her ambition to explore new musical regions. Despite her early reservations about moving into rock.

Recognition In Rock

Following the release of “Rockstar,” Judas Priest’s Rob Halford praised Parton’s brave foray and success in the rock genre. In an interview with NME, Halford praised Parton’s acknowledgment, explaining:

“I’m just so happy for this woman to be recognized in that category after initially turning it down. She honestly felt, ‘This isn’t for me. Thank you for the respect, but my name is Dolly, and I do blah blah. But, of course, she’s had a great time, and everyone’s lined up to perform with her. Again, it demonstrates the importance. She is a living, breathing icon of music. It’s insane.”

The 30-track album, which was released in November, has collaborations with giants like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Miley Cyrus, among others. Parton has expanded her musical portfolio by collaborating with Pitbull on ‘Powerful Women,’ a rap song. The tune debuted at number four on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart.
