Duff McKagan Breaks Silence On Joining AC/DC Rumors

AC/DC

In a recent interview with Planet Rock’s Three Chords & The Truth, Duff McKagan clarified that he will not be joining AC/DC as their bassist.

Earlier this year, fans speculated that he might replace AC/DC’s bassist. It was shortly before AC/DC announced their Power Up European Tour in February. Many people believed it was possible. Cliff Williams, AC/DC’s longtime bassist, returned from retirement to perform last October.

Duff McKagan Talks Bassist Rumors

But Williams did not remain with the band. When AC/DC was preparing for their summer tour, they chose Chris Chaney as their new bassist. Duff and his wife, Susan Holmes McKagan, talked about it during their interview. The rocker shared, “So AC/DC needed a new bass player, and I kind of know what’s going on there. We don’t have to say who it is.

Duff remembered the confusion, “Okay, but it’s not me. So I’m getting texts like, ‘Hey, congratulations on the new gig!’ Even Slash texted me, ‘Hey, are you doing the AC/DC gig?’ I’ve received texts from friends in Seattle, London, and Australia. I’m like, ‘It’s not me, where are you hearing this from?!’”

After Susan talked about how much she likes AC/DC, McKagan added, “If they need me for anything, I’m there for them, but I’m not the new bass player.

Power Up Tour of AC/DC

AC/DC announced their plans for the Power Up European Tour last month, saying on social media, “We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘Power Up’ European Tour.” Chris Chaney will join Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt in carrying the torch for Cliff. This summer, we’ll be touring Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France, and Ireland. We can’t wait to see everyone out there.”

The tour begins May 17 in Germany and concludes August 17 in Dublin, Ireland. The band is making their return to European stages after an eight-year hiatus. They’ll be supporting their 2020 album, ‘Power Up.’ AC/DC also announced that The Pretty Reckless would be opening for them.
