A major archival release celebrating George Michael’s legendary early solo era is officially on the way. George Michael: The Faith Tour, a newly restored concert film capturing the singer at the peak of his 1988 breakthrough, will be released in cinemas worldwide later in 2026, alongside a full live album featuring previously unheard recordings.

The project was announced on 10 March 2026 by George Michael Entertainment in partnership with Mercury Studios. It documents performances filmed during Michael’s Paris shows at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy over two nights on 30 and 31 May 1988, during the European leg of his first solo headlining tour following the success of his debut album Faith.

The footage, originally captured using a 14-camera 35mm setup, has been fully restored and remastered for modern theatrical release. According to production details, the film is directed by long-time collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, who also worked closely with Michael during his career.

The cinematic experience will open with a short film titled Finding Faith, created by Mary McCartney. This segment includes previously unheard interview audio from George Michael, rare photographs by Herb Ritts, and behind-the-scenes material from the original Faith music video shoot.

The concert film itself is expected to showcase a full setlist spanning George Michael’s early solo catalog as well as his Wham! era, highlighting his transition from pop star to global solo icon. The restored visuals are being promoted as a “peak-era” representation of his artistry and stage presence during one of the most commercially successful phases of his career.

Alongside the film, an 18-track live album titled The Faith Tour will be released globally. It will include previously unreleased live recordings from the 1988 tour, covering both solo hits like “Faith,” “Father Figure,” and “One More Try,” as well as select Wham! material reinterpreted in a live setting.

The original Faith album, released in 1987, remains one of the most successful records in pop history, selling over 25 million copies worldwide and producing multiple international number-one singles. The tour that followed cemented George Michael as a global superstar in his own right, no longer just part of Wham! but a defining solo force in late-80s pop and R&B.

While no exact theatrical release date has been announced yet, the film is confirmed for a global rollout in cinemas later in 2026, followed by broader distribution. The accompanying live album is expected to release in the same window, though final scheduling details remain pending.

This release adds another major posthumous celebration of George Michael’s legacy, arriving nearly a decade after his passing in 2016, and reintroducing one of his most influential eras to a new generation of audiences.
