The punk rock world is getting the ultimate collaborative line-up this summer. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Ramones’ seminal 1976 self-titled debut album, some of the biggest icons in modern alternative music are uniting to form a brand-new supergroup named Cretin Family.

The heavyweight lineup features Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Rancid singer/guitarist Tim Armstrong, and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone. The band is set to make its live inaugural debut at The Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute on August 30, 2026, held at the historic Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Carrying the Blueprint Forward

For the members involved, paying homage to the Forest Hills, Queens legends is deeply personal. The Ramones practically invented the fast, raw, no-nonsense style that paved the way for ’90s punk and pop-punk explosions.

In a passionate statement regarding the announcement, Billie Joe Armstrong emphasized the band’s massive cross-generational impact:

“The spirit of the Ramones is alive in every backyard punk show, punk club and festival. Generation after generation of cretins and weirdos become Ramones lovers. Kids are influenced by the Ramones and they don’t even know it yet. ¡Viva Ramones!”

Blink-182’s Travis Barker echoed that sentiment, noting how foundational the band is to his own career:

“The Ramones are the blueprint. Punk rock wouldn’t be what it is today without them. I’m honored to celebrate 50 years of one of the greatest bands ever!!!”

Rancid’s Tim Armstrong couldn’t hide his excitement about sharing the stage with lifelong peers:

“From the moment I first heard the Ramones, music was never the same. They are my favorite band of all time! I can’t wait to play those great and perfect Ramones songs with my friends CJ, Travis and Billie. It’s gonna be wild!”

A Star-Studded Night Hosted by John Travolta

The live performance is only one component of a massive evening. In a surprising twist, Hollywood icon John Travolta will host the entire tribute event. The night will also feature a double-feature movie screening: the 50th-anniversary deluxe edition of the classic horror film Carrie (starring Travolta) and Travolta’s brand-new directorial debut film, Propeller One-Way Night Coach. Legendary artist and activist Shepard Fairey will keep the music spinning with a guest DJ set.

Travolta shared his excitement about returning to the annual event:

“Two years ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Hollywood Forever Johnny Ramone Tribute for the first time. It was a blast, and I want to return again for the Ramones tribute! With showing something new, my directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach. And something old, the 50th anniversary of original Carrie. It is going to be a fun night. See you there!”

Rocking for a Cause and More Celebrations

The concert doubles as a charitable effort, with all proceeds directly benefiting the David Agus MD Cancer Research fund at the Ellison Institute.

While the original core four members of the Ramones have sadly passed away, later-era members like CJ, Richie, and Marky Ramone have continuously worked to keep the band’s catalog alive on stage. CJ Ramone promises this particular gathering will stand out: “This is gonna be the biggest celebration of the Ramones anyone has seen for a long time!!!”

For fans who can’t make it to Los Angeles, Rhino Records is also marking the 50th anniversary with premium physical reissues. A limited-edition picture disc vinyl of their self-titled debut drops on July 17, 2026, followed by a special 2LP colored vinyl edition of Live at The Roxy 8/12/76 on July 31.
