There were rumors that Dave Evans wanted to return to AC/DC in 2016. AC/DC required a new singer at the time because Brian Johnson needed to take a break. However, Evans dismisses all of this as nonsense.
In a conversation with José Luis Mata Sanchez, Dave stated unequivocally, “That is bullsht in Australia.” Okay. Bullsht.”
He explained that he was busy with his music and never considered returning, “It was just somebody trying to get a headline. No, not. I was doing my own thing. “I would not go back there to do that.”
Evans Explains Why Axl Rose Filled In For Brian Johnson
Evans explained that AC/DC requested Axl Rose because Axl and Angus Young were friends. He says Axl just helped out so the band could continue playing shows.
Angus and Axl Rose were friends. And he simply asked Axl if he could fill in as a friend, and Axl said, ‘Yeah, cool.’ And that is why he did it. He simply filled in for Brian when he was not in the band. The fans were getting a lot out of it, ‘Axl has joined the band,’ blah, blah, blah, all this nonsense.
He was just assisting so that they could complete the tour. They could have canceled, of course, but Angus preferred to continue playing. So he just asked his [friend], ‘Could you do me a favor and fill in?’ Axl said, ‘Yeah, of course. Why not?’ And that’s all it was. That’s all it was.”
Dave also said that he wouldn’t come back even if AC/DC asked him to. He’s moved on and likes to sing his songs and some of Bon Scott’s songs, too.
He Says True Fans Shouldn’t Compare AC/DC Singers
The host asked Dave who he thought was AC/DC’s best singer. He didn’t hesitate, “First and foremost, Dave Evans is unquestionably the best. “That’s me, okay?”
He also stated that it’s difficult to determine who is better because he, Bon Scott, and Brian Johnson are all so different. He thinks it’s unfair to compare them.
Dave left AC/DC back in 1974. He claimed it wasn’t due to a major fight or anything. He wasn’t getting paid and had bills to pay, just like everyone else.
