It’s time for Jon Bon Jovi to return to the stage.

The 62-year-old rock star opens up to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview about going back to live music after vocal cord surgery, as he and Bon Jovi celebrated the launch of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s newest exhibit featuring their band.

When asked if Bon Jovi’s most recent album, Forever, is helping him rediscover his voice. Jon responds, “I guess I am.”

“We performed last night in Nashville, and everything was very good”. The musician says when asked about performing in front of audiences once more.

I’m returning to it gradually,” the father of four continues.

In his new docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, Jon talked candidly about the problems he had with his vocal cords.

The renowned rock star said in it that he started having the problems around 2015. However, he didn’t deal with them until he had a “devastating” talk with his wife in 2022 while on tour. That’s when he realised he could either retire or get medical assistance.

In June 2022, Jon underwent surgery to relieve the tension in his vocal cords, which was affecting his voice. He now exercises his voice every day and works with vocal coaches. He recently told PEOPLE, “Every day is the recovery process.”

“I have the ability to sing. The “Livin’ on a Prayer” singer continued, “What I’m not necessarily capable of is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week.” “But my goal is to regain that.”

In the midst of his health issues, Jon recently revealed to PEOPLE that he sought guidance from a well-known friend: Shania Twain.

Jon described the 58-year-old “Any Man of Mine” singer, who underwent vocal fold medialization surgery in 2018, as his “spiritual sister” during this ordeal.

Jon claimed that he turned to Twain because “she’s the only other person I know that’s ever had this surgery, with this doctor.” He further explained that the only reason he found this out is because she reported it in the press.

She assured me that everything would be alright. However, I also believe she slightly pulled my leg. She stated that I would be out there much sooner than I actually have. “Well, I told you that because I knew you might back out otherwise,” the woman responds. I was therefore eager to have the procedure,” he continued.
