KISS Guitarist Ace Frehley’s Cause of Death Confirmed

Legendary guitarist and founding member of KISS, Ace Frehley, has died at the age of 74. His cause of death has now been officially revealed by the Morris County, New Jersey medical examiner, confirming blunt trauma injuries to the head from an accidental fall in his home studio.

On September 25, 2025, Frehley reported a “minor fall in his studio,” forcing him to cancel tour dates.  The incident resulted in a fractured skull, a subdural hematoma (bleeding between the brain and its outer protective layer), followed by a stroke. He was placed on life support and passed away on October 16, 2025 in Morristown, New Jersey — surrounded by family.

The family’s statement read: “We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments… we were fortunate enough to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth.”  As a co‑founder of KISS in 1973, Frehley became known as the “Spaceman,” helped craft their theatrical look and sound, and influenced generations of guitarists.

His passing marks the first death of the original four KISS bandmates. Tributes have flooded in from artists across the rock spectrum, underscoring his enduring legacy.

In the wake of his death, fans and fellow musicians alike are reflecting on Frehley’s iconoclastic spirit, his self‑taught guitar style, and his ability to shine in the chaos of rock & roll. Though the Spaceman has left the stage, his impact remains orbiting the hearts of many.
