Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale and Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee are two of the most powerful voices in modern rock, so when they joined forces for a reimagined version of “Break In,” the result was nothing short of chilling. The collaboration was the centerpiece of Halestorm’s EP, Halestorm: Reimagined, where the band reworked several of their biggest hits alongside a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”
The original version of “Break In” appeared on Halestorm’s 2012 album The Strange Case Of…, but this updated duet transformed the track entirely. According to Hale, the recording process was organic and raw. “We recorded this duet… together in the same room, live, as a complete performance from beginning to end,” she explained.
For Hale, the addition of Lee’s vocals shifted the song’s narrative. While originally written as a love song, the duet turned it into a “declaration of unity and mutual support.” The two vocalists have a long-standing friendship, often touring together, and this track served as a permanent document of their bond. Hale noted, “Amy brought a new meaning to the song.”
The Reimagined EP represented a shift for Halestorm, who had spent the previous decade releasing cover EPs between studio albums. This project allowed them to look inward, stripping down their own material to find new emotional depth. However, it is the harmony between Hale and Lee on “Break In” that remains the standout moment, proving that two powerhouse leads can complement rather than compete with one another.
