Marilyn Manson’s long-time guitarist Tyler Bates has announced he is stepping away from touring with the band, sharing a heartfelt statement about his decision and his plans going forward. Bates, a key collaborator for more than a decade, said he’s leaving the stage to focus on other creative projects — but emphasized he will still support the band’s upcoming work behind the scenes.
In a message posted to his social media, Bates reflected on the beginning of a new year as a moment for self-assessment and growth. “Every New Year prompts reflection on all that has transpired and what lies ahead,” he wrote. With that in mind, he announced he was concluding his time touring with Marilyn Manson in order to concentrate on his own artistic, film, and television endeavors.
Bates expressed deep appreciation for his bandmates on the road — including drummer Gil Sharone, guitarist Reba Meyers, and bassist Matt “Piggy D” Montgomery — calling them “stellar humans on and off stage.” He said he will miss performing live with them and the dedicated audiences the group has encountered around the world while supporting One Assassination Under God – Chapter One.
Though Bates is stepping back from touring duties, he confirmed he will remain involved with Marilyn Manson’s future creative output. He noted that he is actively supporting the forthcoming release of Chapter Two, the fourth album he has worked on with Manson — following collaborations on The Pale Emperor (2015), Heaven Upside Down (2017), and One Assassination Under God – Chapter One (2024). Bates called the upcoming record “our finest work together” and said he looks forward to its launch.
In closing, Bates sent goodwill to Manson, the band, the crew and fans alike: “I wish M, the band and the crew the best of success and good times moving forward. Thank you, the fans, for your loyalty and support of our new music and performances. I wish you all the very best for a fantastic and peaceful 2026.”
Bates first began working with Marilyn Manson in 2014, contributing to multiple studio albums and serving as a touring guitarist on and off over the years. In addition to his work with Manson, Bates is an established composer whose credits include major film, television and video game scores, adding an expansive artistic scope to his music career.
