Chad Gray recently appeared on ‘The Jesea Lee Show.’ He revealed his early love for the music of Mötley Crüe and praised Mick Mars’ part in it during the interview.
Then, the ‘Mudvayne’ frontman shared his thoughts on the band’s decision to continue performing with John 5 after the original guitarist’s exit. He noted, “At this point, I would just bow out. It’s not the same, dude. I’m not the guy that fcking like just wants to sit and talk sht, but I have, unfortunately… It hits me in such a pure place, and to see it just kind of turn into fucking whatever because it was such a big part of my life, and so it’s hard for me to watch.”
He Thinks They Should ‘Try Harder’ Now
Mars announced his retirement from touring in October 2022 but said he’d still be part of the lineup. The guitarist later sued the other band members for trying to cut him out as a major stakeholder. So, John 5 replaced him both on stage and in the studio.
Host Jesea Lee asked Gray if the band ‘should just call it completely at this point.’ The singer said, “Unless you wanna try harder. You know what I mean? And it’s not all of ’em. [Drummer] Tommy [Lee] can still fcking play. Tommy’s a fcking beast; I mean, he always will be. But that’s usually the way with drummers; they usually can stand the test of time.”
He continued, “I get it with singers and sht like that. If you lose some of your register and frequency, your pitch will drop. That’s just fcking nature. ’Cause it has with me — my resonant pitch has dropped. I can still get up there, but it’s weird. My register break is a little bit lower and different. So, it does happen, but it’s just, like, come on, man.”
The Band And The Guitarist’s Music After The Split
Last year, ‘Mötley Crüe’ announced a 2024 tour and a new album with John 5. John revealed that they finished recording several songs in late 2023: an original named ‘Dogs Of War’ and a cover of Beatie Boys’ ‘(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!).’
The band will start a new series of shows on May 3 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Meanwhile, Mars sticks to his decision to leave the stage. He will not tour for his new solo album, ‘The Other Side Of Mars’. The record came out in February 2024 through 1313, LLC, and MRI.
