Music legend Paul McCartney is set to return to the stage of Saturday Night Live once again, adding another historic moment to his long relationship with the iconic late-night program.

NBC recently revealed the lineup for the final episodes of SNL’s 51st season, and the season finale on May 16 will feature former cast member Will Ferrell as host. Joining him that night as the musical guest will be McCartney — marking the fifth time the former The Beatles star has performed on the show.

McCartney’s return is especially notable given the deep history he shares with Saturday Night Live. Over the decades, the legendary songwriter has delivered memorable performances on the show, bringing classic songs and new material to a television audience that spans generations.

Even after more than sixty years in music, McCartney remains one of the most influential figures in popular culture. His appearance on the finale continues a remarkable career that began in the early 1960s with The Beatles and has since expanded through a massive solo catalog and countless live performances around the world.

The May finale is expected to close the season with a mix of comedy and musical prestige. Ferrell’s return as host brings back one of the show’s most beloved alumni, while McCartney’s performance adds a sense of history and musical weight to the broadcast.

The announcement comes as Saturday Night Live prepares for a series of high-profile episodes leading into the finale. Singer Olivia Rodrigo will serve as both host and musical guest on May 2, followed by actor Matt Damon hosting the May 9 episode with Noah Kahan as the musical guest.

But it is the season-closing appearance by McCartney that is already generating excitement among longtime viewers and music fans alike. With decades of legendary songs behind him, the rock icon’s return to Studio 8H promises another memorable moment in the history of Saturday Night Live.

For McCartney, it will be yet another chapter in a career that continues to connect past and present — reminding audiences that the legacy of one of rock’s greatest musicians is still very much alive.
