Producer Andrew Watt Confirms the Rolling Stones Are Working on New Music

The Rolling Stones are set to release new album, Hackney Diamonds, on October 20th. The album is their first studio set of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang, coincidently released on September 6th eighteen years ago.

The Rolling Stones are back in the studio. Producer Andrew Watt has confirmed that the band has been recording new music, though he wouldn’t go further than saying, “we did some recording together.” Watt also described working with them as being “like working for Batman,” a nod to the legendary status they carry and the pressure that comes with creating under that shadow.

Meanwhile, Marlon Richards, son of Keith Richards, has added confirmation. He says the Stones are currently recording in Chiswick, West London, and that the work is nearly done. But whether these sessions will become a full new album or just a few loose tracks remains unknown.

The Stones already had more material than needed when they made their 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, so this latest effort builds in part off what they’ve previously created and perhaps off newly written songs inspired by momentum. Keith Richards hinted as much when he said the leftover material was enough if they decide to follow up on Hackney Diamonds.

For fans, this means hope: new music from The Rolling Stones may be coming sooner rather than later, but for now the details are being kept under wraps.
