Rich Robinson Says He Was Worried That AC/DC Would Fail To Perform After Metallica

Rich Robinson

Rich Robinson, the Black Crows’ founder, shared his experience attending his first Metallica concert last year, when they opened for AC/DC.

In a recent interview with Loudwire Nights, the musician reflected on his first show and shifted the conversation to describe the experience of watching Metallica take the stage. It appears he was concerned that AC/DC would be unable to perform following Metallica’s ‘amazing’ show. He said:

“I hadn’t seen Metallica before. I went out there, and I had never seen an audience react so strongly to a band. It was one of the most amazing, heavy things I’d ever seen, and I was worried about AC/DC. I was like, “How the f*ck are you going to go?

So, how was the experience? The musician continued:

“They opened with ‘Thunderstruck‘ and I haven’t seen or felt anything like it since…” I’ve never seen a transition from Metallica, where everyone in the audience was so into Metallica, to Angus — their spotlight comes on, the lights go out. “Angus is doing the intro to ‘Thunderstruck’ and it’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.”

AC/DC Shaped Robinson’s Sound

During a recent interview, the musician described a ‘amazing’ experience at the Power Trip festival. In addition to his experience, the guitarist has been heavily influenced by the AC/DC rockers, with two specific members inspiring him the most and even helping shape his sound. In an earlier conversation, he said:

“When Angus and Malcolm played together, they sounded powerful yet not overdriven. They evoke the essence of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s just straight-ahead, organic playing that sounds so warm. Angus’ leads were loud but never harsh or overprocessed, and Malcolm’s rhythms were unlike any other. So they’ve always had an impact on me, and the dynamic between Malcolm and Angus is nothing short of amazing. There is no other way to describe it other than a gift. Those two made up one of the most unbelievable duos in rock history.”
