Legendary Canadian rock band Rush have confirmed the addition of a keyboard player for their highly anticipated Fifty Something reunion tour — and it’s a lineup move that has fans buzzing.
Co‑founders Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson revealed during a chat with Planet Rock that Loren Gold — a seasoned keyboardist who has played with The Who and Chicago — will be joining them on the road for the tour.
Gold’s arrival adds a new sonic dimension to the tour’s live sound, allowing Rush to reproduce more of the layered keyboard and synth parts from their expansive catalogue — something that co‑founder Lee hinted was a key reason for the hire.
“We also have hired a keyboard player who’s going to be coming on the road with us,” Lee told Planet Rock, noting Gold’s long career and versatility.
Lifeson added some light humor to the announcement, joking that the new setup might even give them room to work on “dance moves” onstage — a playful nod to the expanded live chemistry this lineup will offer.
Gold joins Anika Nilles, the German drummer confirmed earlier for the tour, who is stepping into the role previously held by the late Neil Peart. Together, they’ll help Lee and Lifeson deliver a full, powerful live show through the band’s Fifty Something trek — a celebration of over 50 years of Rush music and legacy.
The keyboardist addition also frees Lee — who traditionally handled many of Rush’s synthesizer parts himself — to focus more on bass and vocals during performances, while Gold covers the more intricate key lines and harmonies.
This updated touring lineup will be showcased during the March 2027 UK dates, including Glasgow, Manchester and two nights in London, part of an 18‑show European leg announced alongside the keyboard news.
Fans can expect rich renditions of classics and deep cuts — with an expanded instrumental palette that honours Rush’s progressive rock heritage while keeping their live set exciting and dynamic.
