Sam Mendes’ Beatles Films Offer First Glimpse as Cast Images Surface on Postcards

The Beatles

Fans of The Beatles are getting their first visual glimpse of the much-anticipated film project The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, and the reactions are already spreading online. Early images of the cast portraying the legendary band members were unveiled via a creative promotional campaign at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) — a school co-founded by Paul McCartney — where postcard-style stills were hidden for students to find before being shared publicly.

Set to be directed by Sam Mendes and produced by Sony Pictures, this ambitious cinematic undertaking consists of four separate films — each focusing on a different Beatle and told from that member’s point of view. All four films are currently scheduled for a simultaneous global release in April 2028, making it one of the most expansive biographical film projects ever attempted about the Fab Four.

Star-Studded Cast Transforms Into The Beatles

The postcard stills give the first official look at the actors stepping into the iconic roles:

  • Harris Dickinson as John Lennon — capturing the distinctive presence of the band’s outspoken leader.
  • Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney — shown in a youthful Cavern Club era look that nods to McCartney’s early days.
  • Joseph Quinn as George Harrison — portraying the quieter but influential lead guitarist.
  • Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr — completing the Fab Four as the steady backbone on drums.

These photos reflect characters at different stages of their lives, from early fame to later years, signaling that the films will cover a broad span of The Beatles’ history rather than a single era.

Rather than releasing the images in a traditional press release, Sony Pictures UK and LIPA hid collectible postcards around the school’s campus, encouraging students to find and share them. The photos quickly circulated online, fueling excitement among fans and film communities alike.

The decision to base the reveal in Liverpool — the band’s birthplace and cultural home — adds symbolic weight to the material, underscoring the project’s deep ties to Beatles history. LIPA’s involvement also highlights the educational institution’s unique relationship to music heritage and storytelling.

Beyond the core Fab Four portrayals, the Beatles series features an expanding cast that includes:

  • Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney
  • James Norton as Brian Epstein
  • Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono
  • Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd
  • Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey
  • Harry Lloyd as George Martin

This ensemble supports a narrative ambition that goes beyond a standard biopic, offering multiple entry points into The Beatles’ personal and creative lives.

The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event is scheduled to hit theaters on April 7, 2028. Each film will explore a different band member’s perspective, providing a layered and intimate portrayal of the group’s story while using the official Beatles catalog with the blessing of Apple Corps.

For fans and newcomers alike, these first look images offer a tantalizing hint at what could be a landmark in music cinema — a project that aims to rethink how one of the most influential bands in history is brought to the big screen.
