Sammy Hagar is keeping the Van Halen spirit alive with the upcoming release of The Residency, a live album capturing performances from his recent Best of All Worlds Las Vegas shows. Scheduled for October 10, the album highlights Hagar’s time with Van Halen while showcasing the energy and excitement of his live shows.
Joining Hagar are fellow Van Halen alum Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, keyboardist Rai Thistlewayte, and drummer Kenny Aronoff, who stepped in for Hagar’s longtime drummer Jason Bonham near the end of the tour. Together, the band delivers a set that digs deep into Van Halen’s classic catalog, mixing fan favorites with Hagar-era hits.
The live album will be available in both digital and physical formats, each featuring 18 tracks. Physical editions include “Panama” as an exclusive, while digital formats offer “When It’s Love” as their special track. Fans can preview the first two songs, “Best of Both Worlds” and “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight”, right now.
Hagar reflected on one of the album’s standout songs, “Summer Nights”, in a press release:
“‘Summer Nights’ was one of the first songs we wrote for the 5150 record, on our very first day in the studio. Eddie [Van Halen] played me that riff, and I just started singing ‘summer nights and my radio.’ The lyrics flowed naturally, like a river of consciousness. It felt like the perfect theme song for a summer night, so it had to be the first track from the live album.”
