Sammy Hagar has confirmed that he and David Lee Roth are not involved in the upcoming Van Halen album — a record that recently made headlines after drummer Alex Van Halen revealed previously unreleased material may be reshaped into a new project.
In a recent interview, Hagar made it clear that neither he nor Roth will be featured on whatever the band ultimately releases. Although both singers were frontmen for Van Halen during different eras, Hagar emphasized that the next record is moving forward without either of them.
“I have no involvement in it whatsoever,” Hagar said. “And neither does Dave [Lee Roth].”
The comments follow Alex Van Halen’s earlier statements that he’s assembling unreleased music recorded with his brother Eddie Van Halen — with the intention of completing and polishing those tracks for a new album. But Hagar’s remarks make the lineup for that project even clearer: it won’t feature the band’s two most famous vocalists.
Hagar didn’t offer specific reasons why he and Roth aren’t taking part, only reiterating his lack of direct involvement. While there’s been speculation among fans about possible guest appearances or collaborations, Hagar’s statement puts those rumors to rest — at least for now.
Van Halen’s history has long been marked by lineup changes and different vocal eras, with Roth leading the band in the 1970s and ’80s and Hagar fronting the group through much of the late ’80s and ’90s. Each era has its own dedicated fan base, and this latest development fuels curiosity about who will sing on the new project.
At this point, Alex Van Halen and his team have not publicly confirmed any vocalist options for the album, though discussions and speculation continue within the fan community and among industry observers.
For now, the only confirmed involvement remains instrumental — and rooted in recordings that include Eddie Van Halen’s playing. How the tracks will be completed, and who will ultimately handle vocals, remains unannounced.
