Benny Blanco recently sat down with the Spanish newspaper El País ahead of the release of his upcoming Spanish-language album, Hermoso, to pull back the curtain on the early days of his romance with his now-wife, global superstar Selena Gomez. The 38-year-old music producer revealed that the couple managed to keep their relationship entirely under wraps for a significant period before confirming it to the world in December 2023.
The Months of Secrecy
Dating one of the most famous women on earth comes with intense media glare, which is why the couple chose to protect their bond early on.
“We kept our relationship private for a long time, about eight or nine months,” Blanco shared.
The Pivotal Question
Knowing the level of relentless scrutiny her partners face, Gomez gave Blanco a choice before they decided to share their love publicly.
Blanco recalled the conversation: “And she asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? I understand if you want us to just be friends.’”
Moved by her consideration, Blanco decided to push past any hesitation. “And then I said, ‘You know what? Screw it.’” He credited their strong support system for keeping them grounded amidst the noise, adding, “We’re lucky because we both have friends and family we’ve known since before all this, and we’re surrounded by a good group of people we love.”

The couple ultimately tied the knot on September 27, 2025, nearly two years after going public. While their relationship has thrived, Blanco admitted that adjusting to life under a magnifying glass remains a major transition. Having worked primarily as a producer behind the mixing desk for years, the digital spotlight that follows Gomez felt like a sudden shift.
“I don’t like to expose my life,” he explained. “Famous people are under constant scrutiny: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, and if you say another, it’s also wrong.”
Because of this, Blanco takes a highly selective approach to social media, identifying as part of a “transitional generation” that grew up before the digital age took over. “Maybe I’ll occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious dish I’ve tried, but I hardly ever post anything on my Instagram that isn’t work-related,” he noted.
Professional and Personal Partners
Despite the outside noise, their professional partnership continues to hit high notes alongside their personal life. Gomez recently earned a 2026 Grammy nomination for Best Dance-Pop Recording for their collaborative track, “Bluest Flame”. Blanco emphasized that because Gomez has spent her entire life navigating the public eye, they are well-equipped to face the challenges together.
