Slash chose Chris Stapleton rather than his Guns N’ Roses bandmate Axl Rose to sing in his Fleetwood Mac cover.
In a new Rolling Stone interview, the guitarist reflected on why he decided Stapleton perform a cover of ‘Oh Well’, “His singing cadence and that drawl that he has for this particular song, in my mind’s eye, it sounded perfect. I had to get his number and cold-call him. And he was gracious about it and bent over backward to help me get it done.”
When they recorded the song, Slash was happy with the result. He stated, “I think it was one of the best ideas I’ve had in recent memory, was to have him sing that song.”
The New Album of Slash Is On The Way
The musician announced his solo blues covers album, ‘Orgy of the Damned,’ in early March. In the record, Beth Hart, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Billy Gibbons, Gary Clark Jr., and Chris Robinson will also join Slash. The first single from the album, ‘Killing Floor,’ arrived on March 8. It is a cover by Howlin’ Wolf and features Brian Johnson on vocals and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler on harmonica.
Slash spoke on his collaboration with Johnson in a chat with Loudwire last month, “Brian and I are friends, so I called him up. I didn’t know what the legalities of him doing something outside of AC/DC would be, but it all worked out great, and he’s just such a sweet guy. He was so much fun to go in the studio and do this with. He did sing it for a second in the higher register. But it just sounded like AC/DC, so I was like, no, keep it true to the original because he loved that song.”
The Guitarist Will Also Embark On A Tour
After the album comes out, the rocker will have a S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival Tour across North America. He told the following about the tour in a statement, “The S.E.R.P.E.N.T. tour is a celebration of blues and rock ‘n’ roll music, and a celebration of unity and togetherness in these uncertain and divisive times. S.E.R.P.E.N.T is a vehicle to help support and uplift people and communities suffering from the injustices of racism and equal rights violations, as well as to support children adversely affected by war and poverty across the world.”
The tour starts on July 5 at the KettleHouse Amphitheater in Bonner, MT, and ends on August 17 at the Texas Trust CU Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX.
