Bruce Springsteen has officially released ‘Lonely Night in the Park’ for the very first time, nearly 50 years after recording it in 1975.
The song was originally tracked at the Record Plant during the sessions for Born to Run, Springsteen’s landmark third album released on August 25, 1975. Despite being recorded alongside the rest of the record, it didn’t make the final cut and has never been available on streaming services until now.
The track captures the raw storytelling style that defined Springsteen’s early work. On the opening verse, he sings:
“Johnny got an angel dancing topless,
At night down in Toyland,
Where the blondies and the supergirls offer,
A sad look and soft hands…”
A rough version of the song surfaced in 2005 on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, but this marks the first time fans can hear the studio-quality recording.
Earlier this year, Springsteen released Tracks II: The Lost Albums, a massive box set featuring seven previously shelved albums recorded between 1983 and 2018. In a recent interview, he confirmed there’s more to come:
“Tracks III, that is finished. It’s basically what was left in the vault… There are five full albums of music.”
Although Springsteen is currently off the road for the first time in three years, he won’t be idle for long. His upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere — starring Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen — will premiere next month at the New York Film Festival before its wider theatrical release later this year.
