Stevie Nicks’ five favourite singers

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks has captured listeners worldwide with her mystical and fascinating music, beginning with her early collaborations with Lindsey Buckingham. However, her effect extends beyond her collaboration with Buckingham, as countless solo tracks have received tremendous acclaim and admiration.

While Nicks had considerable success during Fleetwood Mac’s early years, it was the release of the critically acclaimed Rumours. This finally elevated her to global prominence. The album’s massive success allowed Nicks to collaborate with a diverse range of performers, including B.B. King, Tom Petty, and even contemporary pop singers Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles.

Given her artistic growth over her career, it’s not surprising that Nicks draws inspiration from a wide spectrum of significant artists. Nicks has excellent singing abilities, which she shares with many of her favorite singers. She has also worked with many of these musicians at various stages in her career.

For example, she met Natalie Maines of The Chicks in 2002 while the band was covering Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Landslide’. This resulted in a wonderful occasion for Nicks and Maines to perform the song together, which left a lasting impression on Nicks. “Natalie Maines is my favourite person to sing with, ever,” Nicks told Oprah Winfrey. “I would happily be a member of the Chicks. Although they are billed as country artists, they are quite rock ‘n’ roll.”

During some of her most difficult years, Nicks found solace in Joni Mitchell, especially when her career was unclear and her relationships were tumultuous. When asked about Mitchell’s 1974 album Court and Spark, she stated, “It was one of those albums that I lay on the floor and listened to for three days straight.” Adding, “Lindsey and I were coming to the end of our relationship, and I’d met someone else.”

Nicks’ experiences in the vivid 1960s surely influenced some of her most beloved compositions, particularly the work of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, to whom she feels she owes a great deal.

While discussing her early influences in rock music, Nicks has revealed the three musicians she consistently turns to for inspiration: Along with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, she acknowledged in a Q&A for SXSW Music that she takes “a little bit of slinky from Grace Slick,” adding, “Those were the three people who I emulated when I was on stage.”

The vocalist, of course, praises her bandmate Christine McVie’s remarkable singing qualities. Aside from their musical abilities, both ladies bravely tackled sexism in the industry. They confronted interviewers and standards that regularly put them at a disadvantage merely because of their gender.
