Rock guitarist Ted Nugent sparked controversy after criticizing Generation Z during a recent appearance on Newsmax, arguing that many young people have grown too dependent on modern conveniences.
Nugent said younger generations often lack an understanding of basic infrastructure and survival skills.
“These kids are so soft. They are so spoiled. They have no idea why they turn on the hot water faucet and hot water comes out. They have no idea why they can plug stuff in the wall and electricity turns it on.”
He then made the comment that quickly drew widespread attention:
“These kids need to be stripped naked and thrown into the wilderness without anything for a week.”
Nugent framed the remark as a call for self-reliance and resilience, values he says come from outdoor living, hunting, and survival skills.
However, he also clarified that he does not believe the criticism applies to everyone in the younger generation.
“Let me clarify that only the guilty need to feel guilty.”
The musician pointed to his Ted Nugent Camp for Kids, a program where he works with thousands of young people each year teaching outdoor skills and self-reliance. He said many participants demonstrate the discipline and independence he believes young people should develop.
“I’m looking these young people in the eyeballs every year by the thousands… there’s a bunch of really good ones out there.”
Nugent’s remarks continue a long pattern of criticism he has directed at younger generations, often arguing that modern technology and comfort have weakened survival instincts and personal toughness.
