“The Boss Joins the Party”—Bruce Springsteen to Perform at Patti Smith Tribute Concert

Bruce Springsteen is officially joining the already star-studded lineup for the upcoming Patti Smith tribute concert at New York City’s legendary Carnegie Hall on March 26th.

People Have The Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith is the latest in Carnegie Hall’s benefit concert series, with 100% of net proceeds going toward music education programs for underserved youth. Held just blocks from where Smith first emerged as a punk-poet icon, the show will celebrate her groundbreaking career with performances of her most influential songs.

The original lineup already boasted an impressive roster, including Courtney Barnett, Matt Berninger (The National), Kim Gordon, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Michael Stipe, Karen O, Ben Harper, Kronos Quartet, and The Kills’ Alison Mosshart. A powerhouse house band featuring Rolling Stones’ drummer Steve Jordan, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, and Smith’s longtime bandmate Tony Shanahan will back the performers.

Now, in a last-minute addition, The Boss himself is set to take the stage. Springsteen’s involvement is particularly fitting—after all, he co-wrote Because The Night, which became one of Smith’s biggest hits. Originally penned by Springsteen, the song was ultimately finished and recorded by Smith, turning it into an enduring classic.

The news was first reported by Consequence, though details about Springsteen’s role in the show remain unclear. Will he perform solo? Will he team up with another artist for a duet? And the biggest question—will Patti Smith herself make an appearance? For now, fans will have to wait and see, but one thing’s for sure: with Springsteen in the mix, this tribute just got even more exciting.
