The Rolling Stones Reveal “Jealous Lover” as Their Next ‘Foreign Tongues’ Single

The Rolling Stones are set to release new album, Hackney Diamonds, on October 20th. The album is their first studio set of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang, coincidently released on September 6th eighteen years ago.

The Rolling Stones are keeping the momentum going behind their upcoming album Foreign Tongues with the announcement of a new single, “Jealous Lover.” Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the track is the band’s next release from the project, and a press release describes it as a “soulful R&B groove” with a falsetto lead vocal from Mick Jagger. The song also features longtime Stones collaborator Steve Winwood on Rhodes piano and organ.

“Jealous Lover” is scheduled to arrive on June 26, while Foreign Tongues is set for full release on July 10. The new single follows the earlier preview track “In the Stars,” which helped set the tone for the band’s next studio album. Pre-orders and pre-saves for the single are already live.

What stands out most is how deliberately the Stones seem to be leaning into a smoother, more soulful lane this time around. The official store description says the band moves from the pop-rock energy of “In the Stars” into the warmer, more groove-based feel of “Jealous Lover,” with Jagger’s falsetto front and center. That stylistic shift adds another layer to the anticipation around Foreign Tongues, which is being framed as a major release for a band already deep into its sixth decade.

The timing also matters. The new album is being positioned as a substantial 14-track set, and early reporting suggests it includes contributions from players such as Andrew Watt, Matt Clifford, Darryl Jones, and Steve Jordan, with the record leaning into the Stones’ blues, soul, and rock strengths. In other words, Foreign Tongues does not sound like a nostalgia project; it sounds like a band still trying to stretch its own history.

For fans, “Jealous Lover” is another sign that the Rolling Stones are not just releasing new music as a formality. They are rolling it out like a statement, one track at a time, with enough polish and pedigree to keep attention locked on the album’s July arrival.
