Mötley Crüe’s John 5 recently shared his thoughts on an underrated guitar solo that deserves more recognition.

Known for his versatility, John seamlessly blends country and industrial metal, making him a credible voice in the discussion of guitar excellence.

In a conversation with Metal Injection, he highlighted a solo that often flies under the radar: the slide guitar solo in Bob Seger’s “Like a Rock.”

Although most might initially think of classics like “Hotel California” by the Eagles, John believes this specific slide solo is one of the best.

He explained, “You know what else is a really good one that people don’t really talk about? It’s the slide solo in Bob Seger’s song ‘Like a Rock.’ So good!”

The slide part in “Like a Rock” was recorded by Rick Vito, a highly regarded guitarist with an impressive history of collaboration with artists like Fleetwood Mac and Dolly Parton.

John 5 also mentioned other iconic solos that have shaped rock history, including Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” and Van Halen’s “Eruption.”

During the interview, he also addressed his acceptance among Mötley Crüe fans as he steps into the shoes of the legendary Mick Mars.

“They’ve been so accepting,” John said, emphasizing his commitment to honoring the original solos. “I love Mick and I play the solos exactly how they were written and recorded.”

This blend of respect for the past and his unique style solidifies John 5’s place in one of rock’s most celebrated bands.
