Tracii Guns recently shared on X that he may see Rush differently than most people.

The singer wrote in his post about Rush, “Am I the only idiot who doesn’t consider Rush a prog band? I’ve always thought of them as an excellent heavy rock band.”

Fans Reacted To The Musician’s Tweet

This comment sparked conversations among fans and followers. One person stated, “I consider them to be both.

Another fan responded to Guns by saying, “I think they started as a prog band, but by the early ’80s, they had moved into more mainstream rock.

Another person put it this way “I would say they were hard rock that pushed the boundaries of that genre as far as hard rock musicianship went!

Music of Rush Evolved Over The Years

Rush’s early work exhibited hard rock or proto-metal influences. With their third album, “Caress of Steel,” they began to lean towards progressive rock. However, even in the 1980s, they retained heavy elements. Then, in the 1990s, they returned to their heavier sound.

Rush’s debut album was heavily inspired by Led Zeppelin. However, the band’s direction began to shift with their second album. They added complex musical figures and time signatures. Genesis ‘Nursery Cryme‘ helped shape Rush’s sound.
