Watch Oasis Turn ‘Live Forever’ Into a Beautiful Farewell to the Late Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield

During their São Paulo concert on November 22, Oasis paid an emotional tribute to their late friend Gary “Mani” Mounfield — the legendary bassist of The Stone Roses and Primal Scream. The band dedicated their performance of “Live Forever” to Mani, showing a large, youthful image of him on the screen behind them as they played.

As the song came to a close, Liam Gallagher’s voice softened when he changed the familiar lyric to “you’re gonna live forever” while gesturing toward Mani’s picture.  Then Liam told the crowd:

“And he can have this one as well! ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’,” before launching into that song next.

The tribute wasn’t just in the music. Oasis stood with their backs to the audience, quietly facing Mani’s image for a moment of deep respect and powerful connection.  Liam had already shared his grief publicly, writing on social media: “In total shock and absolutely devastated … My hero. RIP RKID.”

Fellow Mancunian musicians and friends also joined in paying tribute. Richard Ashcroft, performing in support of Oasis that night, honored Mani by playing the bassline from The Stone Roses’ “She Bangs the Drums” before launching into Bittersweet Symphony.

The tribute comes shortly after Mani’s death at 63, announced by his brother Greg, who wrote: “It is with the heaviest of hearts … RIP RKID.”  In honoring him on stage, Oasis underscored not just their friendship, but his profound impact on their lives and music — and paid homage to one of Manchester’s great rock icons.
