BBC to Air ‘Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home’ on August 18, Detailing Rock Legend’s Final Years

The BBC has officially announced a deeply personal new documentary, Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, chronicling the final chapter in the life of the legendary Black Sabbath frontman.

The hour-long film will premiere on BBC One at 9pm on August 18, and will also be available on BBC iPlayer. The documentary captures the emotional return of Ozzy to his hometown of Birmingham earlier this year for one final performance — a farewell concert fittingly titled Back to the Beginning, held at Villa Park. Despite being plagued by serious health issues, Ozzy fulfilled his dream by appearing on stage once more, performing from a throne due to his physical condition.

Filmed over the past three years, Coming Home follows the Osbourne family’s difficult journey as they attempted to move back to the UK, while also offering an unfiltered look at Ozzy’s battles with illness and the love that held the family together during those trying times.

Clare Sillery, the BBC’s Head of Documentaries, shared her thoughts:

“We are honoured to have had the opportunity to film with Ozzy and his family. The film captures intimate moments, humour, reflection, and the enduring spirit that made Ozzy a global icon. We hope it brings comfort and joy to fans as they remember and celebrate his extraordinary life.”

Producers Ben Wicks and Colin Barr of Expectation added:

“It was an incredible privilege to spend these past few years with Ozzy, Sharon, Jack, and Kelly. Ozzy was determined to make it back to the UK and appear on stage one last time. This film is a moving and inspiring account of him achieving that goal.”

They continued,

“Millions loved Ozzy not just for his music, but for his sense of humour and brutal honesty — all of which we saw in full during the final years of his life. But above all, we witnessed his deep, unwavering love for his remarkable family.”

Earlier this week, Aimée Osbourne officially submitted Ozzy’s death certificate in London, confirming that the heavy metal icon died from a cardiac arrest. He passed away peacefully at age 76 at the family’s home in Buckinghamshire, surrounded by loved ones. As per his wishes, he was buried by a lake on the property — a final resting place chosen for peace and reflection.

Aimée listed her father’s occupation on the certificate as:

“Songwriter, performer, and rock legend.”
