On October 8, 2025, Neil Young announced via his Neil Young Archives website that he plans to remove his music catalog from Amazon, urging his fans to reject big corporations in favor of supporting local businesses.
Young’s message was unfiltered. He wrote, “FORGET AMAZON AND WHOLE FOODS. FORGET FACEBOOK. BUY LOCAL. BUY DIRECT. Bezos supports this government. It does not support you or me.”
He continued: “The time is here. FORGET AMAZON. Soon my music will not be there. It is easy to buy local. Support your community. Go to the local store. Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America.”
Young tied his move to broader political concerns: referencing government shutdowns and what he sees as threats to income, safety, and family health security under an administration he believes is failing average citizens.
It’s not yet clear whether his removal covers all forms of his Amazon presence (streaming, physical sales, etc.).
This is far from the first time Young has used platform removals as protest. In 2022, he removed his music from Spotify over concerns about misinformation on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
