Joe Perry recently reflected on an emotional period in the studio while working on new material with longtime bandmate Steven Tyler, describing the experience as both intense and deeply encouraging for the future of Aerosmith.
The recordings were part of the band’s One More Time EP, a collaboration that arrived in late 2025 and marked Aerosmith’s first significant new music release in more than a decade. The sessions carried extra meaning because they came after the band was forced to cancel its Peace Out farewell tour in 2024 following Tyler’s serious vocal injury.
For Perry, returning to the studio with Tyler after months of uncertainty was a powerful moment. He recalled watching the singer perform at a level the band hadn’t witnessed in years. According to Perry, Tyler pushed himself intensely during the sessions, delivering marathon vocal performances.
“Steven sang like six hours straight, three days in a row,” Perry said while recalling the recording process. “My wife Billie and I were sitting there… and she had tears in her eyes because we hadn’t heard him sing like that in years.”
Those emotional moments made the recording process particularly meaningful. After the band had spent months dealing with Tyler’s injury and the end of their touring career, hearing his voice return with that kind of power gave Perry renewed optimism.
Despite that optimism, Perry acknowledged that Aerosmith’s days of large-scale touring are likely over. The band officially stepped away from regular touring after Tyler’s injury made it impossible to continue their farewell tour as planned. Still, Perry hasn’t ruled out the possibility that the group could perform again in some capacity.
“I know we’ll never be able to tour again like a regular tour,” Perry admitted, while leaving open the idea that special appearances or isolated shows might still happen someday.
While touring remains uncertain, Aerosmith have continued to celebrate their legacy in other ways. Recently, the band released a remixed and remastered edition of their 1973 self-titled debut album, giving fans a refreshed look at the music that started their career more than five decades ago.
The new edition includes updated mixes and additional material that help capture the sound the band originally envisioned during those early sessions. For Perry, hearing the updated recordings finally reflect the energy and tone the band had in their heads back then was particularly satisfying.
Even as Aerosmith step back from the road, Perry’s reflections show that the connection between the band members — especially between him and Tyler — remains at the heart of everything they do. Their decades-long partnership continues to define Aerosmith’s identity, whether they are performing on stage or creating music in the studio.
For fans, the emotional recording sessions behind One More Time serve as a reminder that even after the end of their touring era, the story of Aerosmith is still being written — one song, and one powerful vocal performance, at a time.
