“I Love Your Voice. I Love Your Performance. I Love Your You.” — Lee Ann Womack Leaves ‘American Idol’ Finalist Hannah Harper in Tears

Nobody expected one simple question to create one of the most emotional moments of the American Idol season. But the second Hannah Harper said Lee Ann Womack was the country artist who meant the most to her, the entire atmosphere changed.

Harper, the 25-year-old Missouri singer who has quietly become one of Season 24’s breakout contestants, was speaking honestly about the kind of music that shaped her. “Obviously, Lee Ann Womack is on the top,” she said. “Her songs… I love singing them. It’s my style of music. That’s the music I want to create now in 2026.”

Then came the surprise nobody saw coming.

As producers reminded Harper that finalists traditionally get the chance to perform with major artists during the live finale, a video message suddenly appeared from Womack herself. And almost immediately, Hannah looked overwhelmed.

“Hey, Hannah! Lee Ann Womack here,” the country star said. “Girl, you’re on a whirlwind. You are everywhere, and I’m loving it. I love every clip that I’ve been sent… I love your voice. I love your performance. I love your ‘you.’”

But Womack was not finished.

“I just can’t wait to meet you in person. And it looks like I’m gonna get that chance because you and I are gonna sing together on the American Idol finale, and I’m so excited about it. We’re gonna make great music, and we’re gonna make great memories.”

At that point, Harper completely broke down.

“This is the second time she’s making me cry,” Hannah said while trying to process what she had just heard. Moments later, through tears, she added, “Oh my gosh. I literally just told you that would be the biggest dream. This is crazy.”

For Harper, this moment clearly went far beyond television.

Before American Idol, before the national audience, and before becoming one of the season’s strongest country voices, she was a stay-at-home mother of three from Willow Springs, Missouri trying to balance family life with music. Her emotional audition earlier this season — including her original song “String Cheese,” inspired by her struggle with postpartum depression — immediately connected with viewers and even brought Carrie Underwood to tears.

Since then, Harper’s rise has become one of the biggest stories of the season. She reached the Top 3 alongside Jordan McCullough and Keyla Richardson, while building a strong fanbase drawn to her old-school country style and emotionally grounded performances.

And now, she is preparing to share the stage with one of the artists who inspired her long before any of this happened.

The American Idol Season 24 finale airs live on May 11 and is expected to feature a stacked lineup that includes Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, Shinedown, Mötley Crüe, Jason Mraz, Lee Ann Womack, and more.

But for many fans, one of the most anticipated moments of the night is now obvious: watching Hannah Harper stand beside the artist she grew up admiring and sing in front of millions of people.

That is the kind of full-circle moment American Idol was built for.
