Watch Metallica Cover Accept’s “Fast As a Shark” in Frankfurt During Their M72 Run

Metallica gave fans in Frankfurt an unexpected bonus during their May 24, 2026 concert at Deutsche Bank Park when guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo broke into a cover of Accept’s “Fast As A Shark.” Fan-filmed video of the moment quickly made the round, turning a regular stop on the M72 tour into a little extra metal history.

The performance was part of Metallica’s ongoing “doodle” tradition, a recurring feature on the band’s recent tours where Hammett and Trujillo perform stripped-down covers of songs by artists they admire. These interludes are usually just guitar and bass, sometimes with Trujillo singing, and they have become one of the most talked-about quirks of the M72 live experience.

In Frankfurt, the band used the doodle slot to salute one of the German metal greats. The Setlist.fm record of the show places “Kirk and Rob Doodle” — identified as Accept’s “Fast as a Shark” — between “Leper Messiah” and “Fade to Black.” The rest of the 19-song set included classics and newer material such as “Whiplash,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “The Shortest Straw,” “Until It Sleeps,” “Lux Æterna,” “The Call of Ktulu,” “The Unforgiven,” “Whiskey in the Jar,” “Blackened,” “Moth Into Flame,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman.”

The show was also another reminder of how massive Metallica’s current world run has become. According to Blabbermouth, the M72 tour launched in Amsterdam in April 2023 and has since played for an estimated four million fans worldwide. The band also continues to donate a portion of ticket sales to local charities through its All Within My Hands foundation, which was established in 2017 and has raised more than $20 million to support vocational and technical education, food insecurity relief, and disaster response.

The Accept tribute fits that larger live identity perfectly. Metallica have been using these short covers to surprise crowds and spotlight the music that shaped them, and Frankfurt got one of the cleaner, heavier examples yet. It was a quick detour, but one that reminded everyone how easily Metallica can turn a stadium set into a deep-cut conversation with rock history.
