Miranda Lambert Confirms Feud With Kacey Musgraves Is Dead: ‘Whatever Bshit Was Around Is Gone’

The ultimate Lone Star standoff has officially come to an end. After more than a decade of industry gossip, heavy tension, and quiet distance, Texas trailblazers Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves have officially buried the hatchet. The grand truce didn’t just happen behind closed doors; it rolled out in front of an ecstatic crowd at the historic Gruene Hall, cementing a massive personal turnaround for two of the biggest powerhouses in modern country music.

The roots of the bad blood trace back to 2013, when Miranda released the fierce, 3x-Platinum anthem “Mama’s Broken Heart.” While the track became one of Lambert’s absolute signature hits, it was co-written by a young Kacey Musgraves alongside Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. As Nashville lore goes, Kacey desperately wanted to keep the track for her own debut album, but Miranda fought tooth and nail to secure it. The fallout sparked a years-long cold war, with both artists taking defensive stances and quietly keeping their distance while dominating their respective lanes.

But time, maturity, and a few shared life milestones have a funny way of clearing the air. Earlier this month, Kacey dropped her highly anticipated sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, featuring a deeply autobiographical duet with Miranda titled “Horses and Divorces.” The track doesn’t shy away from their messy history, with lyrics directly addressing years of “sh*t talkin'” and acknowledging that “there’s always two sides of the truth” before raising a glass to the things they now have in common: horses, high-profile divorces, and a mutual love for stiff drinks.

During a raw and unfiltered interview with Cody Alan on SiriusXM’s The Highway, Miranda opened up about exactly how the live reunion came together during Kacey’s recent three-night run in Texas.

“Kacey was doing three nights, and we had the song together, and she was like, ‘What if you come and surprise the crowd?'” Miranda shared. “Honestly, it was very electric. I’ve been going to Gruene Hall my entire life, every single year, my entire life, including last year to go float the river, sit in the Guadalupe and drink a beer and go to Gruene Hall to see a show. So any opportunity I have to go there, I’m like, yes, absolutely.”

When the two icons finally shared the stage to perform “Horses and Divorces,” the energy in the room was palpable. Miranda admitted the moment carried a massive wave of emotional relief for both of them. “It was really healing, honestly,” she confessed. “It was good to be back with an East Texas sister.”

For Miranda, the reunion wasn’t just about professional networking or moving album units; it was about honoring a bond that existed long before the glitz of Grammy awards and arena tours. The two grew up in the exact same Texas circuit, singing together since Miranda was 14 and Kacey was just 10 years old.

“People don’t know how deep the history goes,” Miranda explained, reminiscing about the early days spent singing karaoke late into the night at Kacey’s grandparents’ house. Ultimately, she made it clear that whatever industry drama drove them apart has completely evaporated, declaring them “kindred spirits” once again.

“Whatever bullshit was around is gone,” Miranda stated plainly. With the air clean, the fences mended, and an incredible new song out in the world, these two Texas outlaws are proving that some friendships are simply built to last.
