Thrash metal titans Anthrax are finally ready to strike again. After a decade-long wait since 2016’s For All Kings, the band is set to release their 12th studio album “Cursum Perficio” on September 18, 2026 via Megaforce (US) and Nuclear Blast (Europe). The Latin title translates to “My journey is complete” — and it feels like a victory lap loaded with decades of fire.
In a revealing new interview, drummer Charlie Benante described the record as “a culmination of different eras, different moods, different ideas.” The band pulled from everything fans love about Anthrax across their long career — multiple singers, shifting sounds, and raw energy — and poured it into one explosive package.
The first single “It’s For The Kids” already hit hard, described as a classic Anthrax ripper with buzzsaw riffs and a massive hook. They even debuted it live opening for Iron Maiden in Bulgaria, where it quickly tightened from 85% to near-perfect.
Benante admitted the long gap wasn’t planned: “I know everybody says, ‘Why 10 years?’ I almost said ‘seven years’, because I don’t count the pandemic.” He explained he simply had nothing to say for a while, but the time allowed deeper ideas to surface, including old riffs from 2015 and fresh demos that became standout tracks like “It’s For The Kids.”
This feels like the perfect full-circle moment for Anthrax. In an era where many legacy bands play it safe, they’re delivering something that bridges their past glory with fresh hunger. Fans who stuck around through thick and thin are about to be rewarded big time — this could easily stand alongside classics like Among the Living.
