After more than four decades of wild highs, brutal lows, breakups, makeups, and rock ‘n’ roll chaos, Mötley Crüe have reached a surprising new chapter — genuine closeness and renewed appreciation for one another.
In a candid new interview, drummer Tommy Lee opened up about the band’s current bond, saying they’re actually closer now than they’ve ever been. Reflecting on their 45-year journey, Lee compared the group to a long-term marriage that has survived everything life can throw at it.
“We’ve gotten closer. Everybody has had enough time to kind of step back and reflect on what we’ve done together,” Lee shared. He described a “big new love” and fresh appreciation flowing between the members, calling it inspirational and something they all feed off.
A major catalyst for this renewed energy? Guitarist John 5, who joined in 2022 replacing Mick Mars. Lee praised the six-string shredder for lighting a fire under everyone: “With all due respect to Mick Mars, when John 5 came in, he lit a fire under everybody. It was just this new energy, new fire… We feed off that — we all feed off that.”
It’s refreshing to see a band with such a notoriously chaotic history reach this level of maturity and brotherhood. After all the drama, lawsuits, and retirement teases, this “new love” could be exactly what keeps Mötley Crüe dangerous and relevant well into the future. Fans who’ve ridden this rollercoaster from the beginning must be loving this positive update.
