In what can only be described as a dream billing for old-school metal purists, thrash pioneers Megadeth provided direct support for heavy metal icons Iron Maiden on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the Heinz von Heiden-Arena in Hannover, Germany.
The highly anticipated open-air performance marked Iron Maiden’s only standalone German stadium appearance of this leg on their monumental “Run For Your Lives World Tour”—a global trek celebrating the band’s historic 50th anniversary. The massive open-air crowd was treated to an evening of breakneck thrash tempos, career-defining classics, and jaw-dropping setlist rarities from both legendary camps.
Megadeth Stuns the Crowd with Tour Debuts and Classics
Led by the indefatigable Dave Mustaine, Megadeth took the stadium stage by storm, delivering a lean, aggressive set that instantly raised the arena’s collective temperature. Rather than sticking purely to standard festival staples, the group sent shockwaves through the crowd by making major programmatic changes.
The first major surprise came with the tour debut of the complex, frantic thrash masterpiece “Take No Prisoners” from their seminal 1990 album Rust in Peace. Furthermore, Mustaine and his bandmates tore into “Ride The Lightning”—the classic title track of Metallica’s 1984 sophomore album, which famously features Mustaine’s original co-writing credits. Supported by recent singles like “Tipping Point,” the thrash legends closed out their set with their quintessential triple-threat: “Peace Sells,” “Symphony Of Destruction,” and “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due.”
Iron Maiden Delivers 50th-Anniversary Spectacle and 38-Year Rarity
Following Megadeth’s high-octane set, Iron Maiden took the stage to a deafening roar, continuing their career-spanning retrospective. Moving away from the set designs of recent years, this tour pays strict homage to the band’s golden eras across the late ’70s and 1980s.
While the band kept early Paul Di’Anno-era gems like “Murders in the Rue Morgue,” “Wrathchild,” and “Killers” at the forefront of their opening salvo, the absolute highlight of the evening came further down the line. Frontman Bruce Dickinson paused to address the ecstatic stadium crowd before the band resurrected “Infinite Dreams”—the progressive centerpiece from 1988’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
The performance marked the first time Iron Maiden had played the song live in concert since the original Seventh Son tour in 1988—ending a staggering 38-year live drought. The track subbed into the setlist seamlessly, providing an unforgettable, emotionally charged milestone for the thousands of diehard fans in attendance.
